  • How does UESI function ?
UESI works at two levels - Students and Graduates.  The student group is known as Evangelical Union (EU).  Graduates are those who are EU alumini or the non-students who may or may not have a University degree.  The graduate group is known as Evangelical Graduates Fellowship (EGF). The whole movement is known as the Union of Evangelical Students of India (UESI). Each EU and EGF has its committee. The committee seeks to co-ordinate the work in the city. The student group has two senior advisors- preferably one male and one female. The graduates while evangelising other Graduates are also the backbone of student group. They open their homes for the students and provide them with Christian hospitality, care and counseling. They invest their time, talent and money voluntarily for the student ministry.

  • What do we believe ?
UESI is Bible-believing. In contrast to some who accept the Word of God "as contained in the Bible", we believe that the whole Bible is the Word of God. We believe this in simple loyalty to Christ Himself, who repeatedly upheld the authority and infallibility of the Old Testament "The Scripture cannot be broken." (John 10:35).

  • Who is an evangelical?
The dictionary definition of this word is: maintaining "the doctrines based by some Protestant theologies upon the Gospels, such as original sin, atonement by the death of Christ, justification by faith, conversion etc." Notice, only some theologians believe the truths enshrined in our Doctrinal Basis. Many do not: and because their unbelief has infected universities (and Christian organisations) throughout the world, including India, we believe there is a great need to maintain, and "earnestly contend for, the faith which was once delivered unto the saints." (Jude 3).

  • What is our primary concern?
UESI is evangelistic. Our primary concern is the propagation of our faith. (see Aim 1). We believe that when Jesus commanded, "Preach the gospel to every creature", He meant that and nothing less. So our purpose is that every student shall hear the Good News (see point 4 of the Basis) at least once during his college course. And many of those who at the University found salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ now help fulfil the wider commission by proclaiming Him through the length and breadth of India and overseas (See Aim 4).

  • Who are our members?
UESI is a fellowship of new life. We are not all trained theologians, but we do know that we have passed from death into life, that we have been 'born again' by faith in Christ crucified. And we have found that only when there is this real unity in Him can we effectively work and pray for the salvation of others. So we limit our membership to those who can join with us declaring that "Jesus my Saviour, my Lord." But our meetings are open to all and all are invited to share this experience. We echo Christ's prayer. "That they all may be one "; but we realise that this refers to those who have believed on Him, not just to those born in Christian families. Unity is possible only among those who are "one in Christ Jesus." (Galatians 3:28).

  • What Church does UESI belong to?
UESI is interdenominational. Our objective is limited to win souls for Christ in the university and to strengthen those who have believed on Him (see Aims 1& 2) . Therefore our Basis includes only those doctrines which are held common by all Evangelical Christians. Matters such as church organistation, baptism, etc. do not concern us as a group, but individuals within our groups are free to hold their own views about them. Thus our members are drawn from most branches of the Church.

  • Is UESI a church?
UESI is not a church. EU meetings are never meant to be a substitute for Sunday worship. EU members, especially those who study in their home town, are encouraged to help their local church or assembly.

  • Is UESI a sect?
UESI is not a sect. By "sect" we mean "a faction of dissenters from an orthodox or established church". We believe nothing but the historic faith professed by Evangelical Christian for 1900 years. This is no "new teaching". But it is "that which ye have heard from the beginning."

  • Is UESI a Foreign Organisation?
UESI is not a foreign organisation. All the EU's were founded by Indian University students and staff. All the executive members and staff of UESI are Indians.
